summer loving
the summerhouse dining room
After a scorcher of a weekend we (along with most of the country) are hooked on dining al-fresco. Queue a countless number of pop-up eateries bursting onto the London restaurant scene granting us endless balmy days quaffing jugs of Pimms and gourmet delights in the sunshine.
Bouncing back by popular demand is the Summerhouse perched a la canal in Little Venice. The fresh and airy vibe is reminiscent of a Long Island Beach House with a nautical palette of off creams and crisp blues, swapping the well-heeled New Yorkers for well-heeled Londoners. Feast on seafood treats such as popcorn shrimp and nostalgic desserts like knickerbocker glory, washed down with a signature strawberry and basil mojito.
Just close your eyes and imagine you’re at the seaside, mmmm…..
calling all adrenaline afficionados

capture what you will with the playsport
Not ones for the shy and retiring experiences here at Black Tomato we love the outrageous, the dare-devilish, and the downright exhilarating. Think bungee jumping James Bond style in Switzerland, volcano surfing in Nicaragua, traversing the Peruvian Andes on a motor bike, these kind of jaunts need to be precision captured right? And instantly shared for all to see (and be super envious of).
We’ve found this nifty little camera that packs some serious punch. Let the Kodak Playsport brings out your rebellious side. What’s so great about it we here you say? Let us explain…
With as much as an appetite for adventure as you do, the Kodak Playsport isn’t afraid to get dirty or wet. And that’s while packing the same awesome Full HD 1080p shooting skills, plus improved focusing (including macro), flat-screen connectivity via the bundled HDMI cable and on-camera editing.
Snap, upload, and share. The Kodak Playsport’s built-in software allows you to share videos and photos of you tearing through the surf, and gliding along the slopes on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube as soon as you touch down back on earth with just one push of a button.

air france re-launches madame
Air France have just upped the stakes when it comes to in-flight printertainment. On a recent flight we caught the first edition of their new look magazine, Air France Madame (April/May 11), showcasing the very best of contemporary French culture to a captive (and captivated) readership at 30,000ft. With regular features including an exclusive ‘Colette’s selection’, curated by the Parisian boutique, this new elegant re-fit is breaking the mould and staying away from the usual Toblerone/yellow-gold pendants. We like. A lot.
follow james to san serriffe – the forgotten colony (shhh)

sandy sandy shores
Beautiful, idyllic and still relatively unknown, the forgotten British colony of San Serriffe has quietly emerged as one of our favourite destinations for 2011. Formerly a haven for intellectuals, political dissidents and the zen-seeking footloose, the island state’s booming steel industry has fuelled expansion in the tourism sector, most notably with the carefully-carpentered construction of a handful of unique boutique-style flop spots along the virgin shores of Gill Sands. Influenced by the indigenous Flong culture and curated by some of the island’s foremost creatives, these new luxury tree houses spiral down the south island’s prodigious palms (the so-called Sequoias of Serriffe).
Despite past fears predicting a collision with Sri Lanka sometime this year, fluctuations in the North Equatorial Current have meant that that the singularly migratory San Serriffe has sailed peacefully south and currently resides in the midst of the Indian Ocean, around 200km north east of Mauritius. Flight times to the capital Bodoni vary due to the constantly shifting position of the north and south Islands (Caissa Superiore and Caissa Inferiore), but new routes are planned to coincide with this year’s summer break. We’ll keep you posted.

escape machine

The place: Paris. The problem: Red buttons. Even worse… Red buttons on big black boxes. Travellers beware, passers by all over the French capital are currently being goaded into violating a golden rule of health and safety – DON’T PUSH THE BUTTON. Oblivious to the consequences, the button is pushed and, well, things start to happen.
The latest marketing ploy from Voyages SNCF, the Escape Machine, is a phony ticket booth-cum-couture-jack-in-the-box, put together by advertising agency DDB to celebrate the French rail company’s new Escape Service. The message is that this new facility will allow you to travel anywhere you want. Wander close enough and you’ll be asked where it is you’d like to go. Respond, push the button and behold the all-singing, all-dancing eruption. The box sprouts shapes and colours, lips with legs and carrot-like canons firing glitter to the heavens. Amid the rainbow chaos, you’ll be presented with a supersized mock ticket to your destination. It might not fit into your wallet and it definitely won’t get you anywhere, but there’s nothing like a bit of free fun à la française.

not your average tea break

Way back in the 80’s whilst the West was busting their brain brains over Rubiks Cubes and making power ballad mix-tapes, the innovative folk over in Taiwan were busy conspiring a tea-volution. And thus, friends, the science of bubbleology was born.
Bubble tea, the craze that has taken Taiwan and the rest of the world by storm is a refreshing spin on the classic British staple. Flavoured fruit and milk teas (ranging fom coconut pearl tea to passion fruit green tea) are served ice cold or piping hot with chewy natural tapioca balls that you can suck up through an oversized straw. Yep, it’s really more of a drink and a snack all-in-one…
Head down to London’s first ever bubble tea café launching in the heart of Soho on the 20th of April, and let the master Bubbleologists demonstrate their effervescent secrets. With its black and neon décor, exposed brickwork and scientific diagrams explaining the tea creation process, the cafe interior recalls the lab of a mad scientist. It’s probably time to get slurping. Tea-licious.

introducing black tomato for dunhill

black tomato for dunhill
Over here at Black Tomato, we’ve been keeping one of our biggest collaborations under wraps for quite some time, but now we’re really excited to announce Black Tomato for dunhill.
Back in the ’30s, dunhill’s best luxury goods expert and GM, Clement Court, travelled across Europe and Asia to bring awareness to everyone he met about the dunhill name. Inspired by his journey, we’re introducing ‘dunhill discoveries.’ Follow in Clement’s footsteps and journey through France, Russia, Mongolia and Japan. We can show you how to see these places like nobody before has…
See the Louvre after hours in Paris, fly in a fighter jet over Moscow, hunt with eagles in Mongolia and dip your toes in the hot springs outside Kyoto. Sound good?
The idea was to take inspiration from their history of spirited exploration and combine it with our ability to produce some of the most exciting travel experiences on the planet.
So follow the legacy of Clement Court and we’ll guide you on some of the greatest adventures you will ever have.
