follow marc sethi to the spiti valley
Something for the weekend? Don’t mind if we do. So follow our intrepid photographer Marc Sethi who takes us to giddy new heights with his incredible snaps of the Spiti Valley, an area within Himachal Pradesh in Northern India.
Described as more like Tibet than India, expect to stumble upon spectacular monasteries dotted along the valley on precarious cliffs and mountaintops, and at 3000m above sea-level it hosts one of the worlds highest villages, at 4700m. We love these majestic snaps of hillside towns dwarfed by the mighty Himalayan peaks and mirror-like lakes.

follow us… to tribeca
Grab yourself a cwoffee because this weekend we’re heading to the big apple for our weekly Follow Friday instalment. Nothing beats New York in the spring, the days are getting warmer, New Yorkers are itching to get outside after a long cold winter, the cherry blossoms are blooming in Brooklyn’s Botanical Garden and the weekend markets are awash with vintage delights and charming trinkets. The highlight of this magical season for all film aficionados however has to be the TriBeCa Film Festival.
Founded a decade ago by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, New York’s Tribeca Film Festival remains one of the leading go-tos for cinematophiles the world over. With awards and screenings of features, shorts and documentaries alike, plus discussions and talks for directors, screenwriters and dedicated screen-lovers there’s plenty for both the emerging and established players out there. And for us mere mortals, there’s also a tight bundle of consumer-side events (including our ol’ favourite: the drive-in) to keep us happy while we wait for Mr or Mrs Dream-Future-Spouse to saunter by…

Swimsuits at the ready, this Friday we’re heading to the beach…
To celebrate the launch of our brand spanking new sister website Beach Tomato, we asked editor Kirsty where she’d jet off to this weekend.
And the answer, we hear you ask? Think untouched golden sands, seductive samba rhythms, and an endless supply of caipirinhas. Yep, it’s Bahia, Brazil.
Now it’s your turn. If you could escape the looming grey skies where would we follow you to this Friday? Leave your comments below to inspire some serious wander lust.

follow will to…

Follow Friday is back. Last week Camilla took us to the sun-blushed sands of Namibia, this week Will takes us a little closer to home; to the majestic Swiss Alps (yodeling optional).
With all that crisp mountain air, mirror like lakes, and fairy-tale castles, its the perfect place to rejuvenate the senses in the great outdoors.

It’s Friday (insert sigh of relief here), and that means we get to follow one of the Black Tomato team to their dream destination.
This week we quizzed the lovely Camilla, who’s dreaming of fiery desert sands, lunar like landscapes, and camping underneath the star filled African sky. So follow her to Namibia for a dose of wildlife and blissful isolation.
Have a think, if you could click your heels and disappear where would you be this weekend? Leave your comments below…

Our reporter Ed caught up with the Mast brothers to discover a little more about them and their world of chocolate making. Follow them this Friday to their chocolate paradise in New York.
Rick & Michael Mast are Master Chocolatiers and brothers alike. They run their intimate chocolate factory straight out of Williamsburg, New York, keeping it in the family of course. Their lovingly made chocolates are born from fairly sourced cocoa beans, and ingredients like sea salt harvested from the Guerande paludiers, and serrano peppers from the Dominican Republic, the results as you can imagine are sublime.
Read on for an mmmm moment…
Hey guys how are you doing? Can you tell us a little about The Mast Brothers and what it is that makes your chocolate so special?
Our chocolate is made in-house, from scratch – or ‘bean to bar’ as we like to say. We source cacao from small family farms around the world, ship the beans here to Brooklyn, and craft chocolate in small batches. We are the first and ‘only’ to make chocolate this way in New York and one of only a handful in the world.
It must be an incredibly long and complex process from start to finish, but could you possibly help us to understand a little about the creation of your chocolate from finding the perfect cocoa beans to the wrapping of the final product?
Craft chocolate seeks to highlight the integrity of the ingredients by simplifying and reducing the processing. Like finding the most delicious apple, it starts with finding great people farming great land. We are lucky to have nurtured great relationships with farms in the Dominican Republic, Madagascar, Venezuela and Brazil.
Our chocolate uses two ingredients; beans and sugar. We have chosen not to dumb down flavor by adding extra butters, oils, soy, emulsifiers or preservatives.
You have some incredibly interesting products and variations of your chocolate, Can you introduce us to some of your products? What are your personal favourites?
Our friends over at Stumptown Coffee have provided us with amazing coffees to add to our chocolate. It is great to work with incredible roasters who happen to be amazing people.
My mouth’s watering at all this talk of chocolate, where can I get hold of some of your products?
Primarily in the New York City area at your local market. You can check out our website to see our list of locations. Our factory’s tasting room is open on the weekends from noon to eight.

follow friday
Last Friday you probably saw the lovely Kate on the blog answering the question ‘if you could be anywhere now, where would you be?’ We followed her to safari in South Africa to escape the daily grind.
Some of you added your comments and told us where you’d rather be if you could click your heels and be there.
So where to today? Each Friday, someone new will be asking you to follow them to their favourite places around the globe. It could be anyone. Someone from the Black Tomato team, or one of our favourite chefs, a local designer…who knows.
This week, it’s the lovely Jihane. Where would Jihane be right now? Tasmania. And with some of the most stunning coastlines and wilderness, it’s no surprise really. We’d definitely recommend you follow Jihane to Australia’s southern most state.
Where would you be? Leave a comment and tell us.
